A Peek Inside...

I saw something about a photo exhibition recently that consists of a series of photos of the inside of various people's refrigerators. It got me thinking about mine.

I've got the spoils of my CSA box in the drawers, pickled red onions, pickled sour cherries, sourdough starter, sour pickles, bread and butter pickles, and the beverages delivered by Paul's beer of the month club on the bottom. Then as you move up, with the exception of my cheese drawer, which contains butter, eggs and fresh yeast, things become less substantial. Small containers of left over sauces, white miso, fudge that Paul brought back from Witchery, the restaurant in Edinburgh, a raspberry pie and an embarrassingly large bottle of wine, a gift many months back that I haven't been able to bring myself to drink.

So what does this all say about me, other than the fact that I love to pickle anything and everything and that I can't drink the beer as fast as it is delivered?

Such an organized interior! Just like mine. Great pic and neat idea.

I love it! What is your favorite beer?

Hostess - We are such voyeurs!

JennyMac - I must admit that I took this photo just after I had cleaned out the fridge, I can't say it is always this clean...

Jeremy and Kathleen - Honestly, I couldn't even tell you. We get four different brews per month, and since we have no need to buy any extra, I just drink what's in the refrigerator without any idea what it is!

OMG ! The inside of other peoples refrigerators is my FAVORITE thing...that and garbage cans..I love to walk my dog when it's trash pick-up day.My husband, John says," why are you so fascinated with other peoples trash"? "Cause you can tell what people cook and eat by their trash.".So, for me, it's a dead heat..refrigerator or trash.

I HATE your fridge. Yeah, I said it!

Why? because it makes mine look fat and bloated.

I need to follow your lead and purge it of all the processed food stuffs and live a little healthier.

Damn

I would be embarrassed to have someone look in my fridge, I am terrible about throwing away old take-out boxes and other than that all we really have are marinades and sodas! SHAME!

Laura, you impress/depress me with your organization. Our fridge always looks like a food bomb just went off. Piles of produce, bags of lettuce, various leftovers, dairy stuff, countless jars of jams, mustards and Asian condiments and sauces... Also always at least one bottle of wine that doesn't have long to live.

Farmhouse Kitchen - My lord, the things we find out about one another through the blogosphere! You seem absolutely fascinating.

Townhouse Lady - Oh we all have our vices, you should see my cabinets! Besides, half of my fridge is filled with booze and soda. Nothing to feel smug about there.

Lucinda - No shame! When I first met Paul his fridge was literally empty with the exception of beer and condiments. Besides, I think only the most glamorous people eschew cooking and go for takeout. You clearly are in the glam set, no question.

Terry - It hardly matters, such good things always come out of your refrigerator! Your condiments sound like they provide quite a bit of inspiration...I'm jealous. All I've got is mustard, capers and harissa. Boring.

Oh I loved a sneak peek inside your fridge. I'm afraid my fridge is in a pretty sad state right now and wouldn't look too hot.

Wow...I love that! When my husband and I were getting to know one another..long distance, one of the first things we asked each other was "what's in your fridge?"

Your fridge is very clean. I am a condiment whore...so I would be afraid to show mine. But, I think I will anyway..and challenge my friends to do the same. Thanks!!

What a fantastic idea. I too have little containers of left over dressing and bits and pieces. A bit scary. Works better since I bought a plastic lazy susan and put them all on it, now I can spin around without having to delve. Very true it is a window into the soul, just like the books on our bedside tables.

hmmm...it looks/sounds like you're healthy, enjoy a good time, and are ready for a casual cocktail or two!

When I visit friends in the States I enjoy cooking for them and I have noticed their large large fridges are full of products that have expired or they have three or four open jars of the same mustard or other .. so what I learn from a fridge is also to be careful with what I store and what I buy!

Yes, beer takes priority in our fridge! Finally getting to own a beer fridge in the garage is a true right of passage for a lot of Aussie blokes. I noticed one of our sons has just done that at his place & his brothers think he's a legend! I love Mel's admission about being a condiment whore - I'm too scared to count the number of mustard jars in the our fridge door.

High Heeled Foot - Fridges ebb and flow I think...mine is not always in this state!

Mel - I had a feeling we would agree on Ms. Fisher!

Jane - A lazy susan is a truly inspired idea...it would never have occurred to me to put it in a refrigerator!

A French Cloud - I don't know about the healthy part, but you are right on about the cocktails!

A World in a Pan - Yes, so true! I've gotten in the habit of cleaning out the refrigerator and wiping it down once every six weeks or so in an effort to avoid just that problem.

Millie - That is pretty legendary...and I'm not even a bloke!
